Build WordPress Yourself

Yes, it’s true. I have approximately 46 million websites… give or take a few.

I have another one to introduce you to. It’s called “Build WordPress Yourself.” It’s 100% dedicated to building websites with WordPress. Though I talk a lot about building WordPress themes, I also speak on plugins and general WordPress usage.

One of the cool things about about this site is I’m making it an all-around resource for those who build websites with WordPress. I offer free and paid downloads as well as make recommendations for WordPress related products that I think are useful.

Personally, I think it’s an awesome idea for you to go check it out and tell me what you think about it. That’s the best idea I’ve ever come up with, actually. Do it.

Twenty Fourteen for Easy Digital Downloads

If you’ve been around me in the WordPress community for more than about 15 seconds, you probably know that I’m a big fan of Easy Digital Downloads, the world’s easiest way to sell digital downloads through WordPress.

You’d also know that I like to build WordPress themes. So it’s no surprise that integrating themes with Easy Digital Downloads is kind of my thing… or at least it’s beginning to be.

I recently decided to give WordPress’ Twenty Fourteen theme the EDD treatment which includes a special sidebar, a grid-style store front/archives template, and multiple page templates. I did all of this in a free child theme so it’s 100% customizable.

If you’re into free stuff, EDD, not reinventing the wheel when it comes to WordPress themes, and my work, head on over to the Github repo and grab a copy.

Chronicl Brought Back to Life for Kolakube

Who remembers the days when I used to work the support forums on Kolakube.com? I was a Thesis user back then.

Since that era, I’ve grown to focus more on my own products and services. Alex, the creator of Kolakube, is still my homeboy, though. That’s why I’m thrilled to see his latest and greatest work released to the world.

Yesterday, Alex took one of his previous Thesis skins and turned it into a standalone WordPress theme… his first.

If you know Alex, you know he’s an intelligent fella with a unique way of creating products for his users. Now you can see that mind in action with no limitations or restrictions.

I must say, I’m impressed. It’s fun. It’s built with intent. And guess what? Options are kept to a minimum. Plug ‘n’ Play, baby. Check it out.

Building a WordPress Theme or Plugin Business

Yup. I like to build WordPress themes. It’s no secret. I sell them too.

What you probably didn’t know is that I only use one tool to do everything. It’s just one core plugin and all of its extensions that give me what I need.

I talked about it on one of my other websites. Read it the article… now.

Quota for Easy Digital Downloads

So I’ve been into using standalone WordPress themes instead of frameworks lately. It’s fun.

I recently created a theme for use with Easy Digital Downloads for WordPress. The design is super simple and ready to be used as is or for selling digital products with EDD.

It won’t be the last one I create for EDD but if you’re a user, or you sell digital products with another plugin, consider trying EDD (it’s free) with the new Theme… Quota.

Codrops Tutorials and Collectives

I know I’m not the only Codrops fan out here. These folks always have the coolest web development tutorials, demos, and resources.

What I like most about the site is their “Collective” series.

As expected, it’s a collection of badass websites and resources for the web development community. I once submitted Volatyl to be part of a Collective but I don’t know if it made the cut. 🙂

Anyway, another Collective is out today and they’re worth paying attention to. Even if there’s nothing you like in there, the tutorials can keep you entertained for days.

New Fitness Forums

I’ve decided to start a fitness forum on here. I workout just as often as I code so it only makes sense that my personal blog cover both areas.

The forums are simple and integrated right here on the site. I don’t care if a person is into fitness or not. It’s not a fad or an activity that only a certain type of people should do. It’s health and it’s important to everyone… period.

If you know you’ve been slacking, hop onboard. If you already live the lifestyle, come add some value to the group. From workout regimens to diet and nutrition, I want to discuss it all.

Underscores Full Width HTML Starter Theme

Who uses the Underscores starter theme by Automattic? I do.

Yup. I have my own framework. I don’t use it for every WordPress theme project, though. I only use it for the jobs that call for its features… as you should with your framework of choice.

Getting back to _s, every time I use it I have to tweak the HTML just a little bit before I get started with anything else. That’s annoying and I’ve done it for the last time.

I made my simple adjustments and uploaded it to Github for everyone else to take advantage of. A description of the changes are in its README.md file. Enjoy.
